I have written here something from my experience of being a long-time reader. I want to share this good advice to help you find your books and make your reading habits more valuable by doing a little extra work. Books not only allow you to increase knowledge but also helps you in stress reduction, memory improvisation, and make strong you think analytically. It also sharpens your language skills like vocabulary expansion and better writing skills.
Remember when you read your first book? Somebody gives you, or was it recommended? Well, many of us are still in the reading game, and I am one of those who will be reading till my last day on the planet. I am going to talk about recommendations which most of us keep asking each other. If you are new to reading books, you must be asking for suggestions. Maybe you have read a lot of articles by searching on various platforms like “top 10 books” or “what are the must-read books.” Even you have watched some YouTube videos like what Bill Gates Elon Musk is reading. There is no issue in asking people for recommendations, but there is a big chance that those books would be suitable for them but not for you. Maybe they are suggesting based on their taste and interest.
Here is my advice: many of these recommendations are almost the same because everybody recommends the same books. But if you will ask some actual readers of the same interest, I am sure you will find the same kind of commonality. And you will realise that everyone has their own good and different instinct. If I am going to tell you my list, then it must become out of my interest. If you think that I will improve by reading books suggested by you admired or the person is very popular or rich, I am sure that these books' recommendations will not help you. Bill Gates is reading not made him what he is today; Bill Gates became Bill Gates for some reason; he is reading his own interest. You have to look out for your own interest. What is your food for the brain? Which flavour do you like in the diverse scope of knowledge? Reading is like that. Don’t blindly pick books followed by a list. First, identify your taste and interest, then find the best books in that interest. I assure you will be happier to read those books. Your preference will suit your personality. Don’t read books for just getting fit in a peer circle that. Yes, I have read those top 10 books. Read for your own interest. Even when you are recommending books, your taste of books should reflect. Rather than showing fake intelligence, tell them your interest. Similar thing I do with music. I never asked you to recommend me these things. I was just going deep in the stuff according to what I like. Your artistic things are very personal and should not be blind to what others recommend to you. It is like that what food you want, not what the world is eating.
After getting books of your interest to excel in that particular means, you should keep digging in that knowledge pool. Whenever you talk about things, your taste should reflect, and the other person should get that vibe. Another facet of the coin is that sometimes we have to read those things that do not take our Interest and find it challenging to go through them. It happened that we start reading something, and after reading some pages, you feel like I am not getting the same level of excitement/interest. At that time, you should not leave the book. Don’t throw that book on the bookshelf without reading to just increase the volume of your bookshelf. Finally, you are not required to read thick hardback books. These days, using a Kindle or another e-reader, or even listening to audiobooks, can be more convenient. What works for you might be figuring out the ideal learning style, whether visual, auditory, or kinaesthetic. For example, I find that e-books work better for me. I don’t need to feel something. Finishing a book is a habit.
You should have a habit of how to complete the book. Once you have started reading a book, don’t leave it uncompleted. I am trying to give you an idea of the long-term habit of doing things where you lack interest. Our habit of reading will improve for sure this way. We all desire to gather as much of the knowledge we can from the books we read. If you want to systematically increase knowledge consumption from the things you read, you should start documenting the things you understand and what items to remember. Yes, the classroom rule also applies where there is no doubt it. Please don’t ignore it because just that you find it the boring way. I can assure you that you start making notes, or by any manner of documentation (for example, voice notes) you prefer, you will remember things for a longer time than just reading the things. It is another great habit to memories the facts and storing the knowledge regularly. You can write it on plain paper if you like to keep them in handwritten notes; I advise you to maintain a diary or notebook. If you want to store on your mobile phone or laptop, go for notes keeping apps and software to regularly add valuable things. There are several apps with many features like google keep & good notes etc. It will increase the usefulness of what you read and inspire you to proceed further with acquiring valuable knowledge.
